Why Not Us? GHS Lady Cats Basketball

By Kenna Kenner on October 9, 2023

It’s almost that time! “Why not us??” That is the motto of the GHS Lady Cats Basketball locker room. We deserve to win. We can win. We will win. The mentality of the girls in the locker room is continuing to change. The momentum from the 2022/2023 basketball season carries over to this year. Many athletes have spent the spring and summer working out with Coach Waters, playing basketball games together during the 3-week period, training, playing travel basketball and doing what they can individually to be better for the team.

The Lady Bearcats finished with an 11-11 record the 2022/2023 basketball season. That is a huge accomplishment, as the team had not won that many games during a season in a few years. While the culture and mentality of the program was different last season, the team is not settling for just “okay.” It takes hard work, determination and a team mentality. Head coach, Hartsel Keener, and assistant coach, Logan Beltner, are looking to have a successful season with returning seniors, Kambree Delaney, Emma Johnson, Kelsey Massie, Caitlin Boylen and Jodi Keene, who was out last season due to an ACL injury. Jodi has worked hard in physical therapy and the weight room to come back better than ever her senior year. They will also return juniors Hadley Horne, Macy Johnson, Lillie Crimm, Amidy Cook, Regan Knight, Scarlett Reid and incoming junior transfers, Jazzy Ray and Amariah Cain. Horne was voted by coaches to the 2nd team All-Big 10 Conference last season. Sophomores Kenna Keener, Sophia Austin, and Kaylee Cross will also be back. Keener was voted to the 1st team All-Big 10 Conference and Honorable Mention All State her freshman season. The team is eager to welcome all incoming freshmen and any other GHS student athlete that would want to try out for the 2023-2024 team. Tryouts are set to begin November 6th in the Scotty Hamilton gymnasium at 3:30pm.
